Alexa Foundation stands behind Billo amidst mass protest (including many rape victims)

Since the Alexa Foundation is ignoring the petitions to have Billo’s speaking event canceled, give them something they cannot ignore: on location, videotaped protests in front of the Ritz Carlton in Manalapan, Florida exposing Billo’s pro-rape remarks on posters and played audibly on boom boxes

Seems the Alexa Foundation is standing behind the biggest womanizing, sex-addicted predator of our time, Bill O’ Reilly. Their plans to have the documented sex predator speak at their luncheon on March 19, 2009 at the Ritz Carlton in Manalapan, Florida are still on, despite an online petition by the Concerned Citizens Against Sexual Violence to stop it. As of this writing, 682 names have signed the petition. Here is one of the posted comments on the petition:

“Are you kidding me? What inept and morbidly derelict person would have a male chauvinist pig, blowhard, like Bill O'Reilly speak at a luncheon for the It Happened To Alexa Foundation? Not only did O'Reilly have to settle out of court by paying millions to Andrea Mackris for sexual harassment, he has also made disturbing comments pertaining to rape victims. O'Reilly: "Now Moore, Jennifer Moore, 18, on her way to college. She was 5-foot-2, 105 pounds, wearing a miniskirt and a halter top with a bare midriff. Now, again, there you go. So every predator in the world is gonna pick that up at two in the morning. She's walking by herself on the West Side Highway, and she gets picked up by a thug. All right. Now she's out of her mind, drunk." And his comment about Shawn Hornbeck, who was kidnapped and raped, enjoyed certain aspects of his captivity: O'Reilly: "The situation here, for this kid, looks to me to be a lot more fun than what he had under his 'old' parents. He didn't have to go to school, he could run around and do whatever he wanted, ... And I think, when it all comes down, what's gonna happen is, there was an element here that this kid liked about his circumstances". How can you in good conscience let this ignorant misogynist talk at your event? What an asinine decision! You dishonor all rape victim and women everywhere, by having this sick malfeasant stain be anywhere near your event -- it's beyond intolerable -- it's contemptible; it's obscenely disgusting and you should be dreadfully ashamed of yourself for justifying and offering bloated rationalizations of his being there. Your negligence in the matter is staggering. I for one will be donating my money elsewhere, if Bill O'Reilly is allowed to speak at your event.”

On the Alexa Foundation website, underneath Billo’s picture announcing the event where it says “buy tickets”, you can read a bio of Bill O’ Reilly and a description of the event. Not only does this bio of O’ Reilly make it appear as if he is the Dr. Phil of rape survivors, but it is littered with blatent omissions, distortions and does not mention ONE connection between O’ Reilly and rape survivors. In fact, the closest thing to a connection in the bio is a reference to frequent FOX News guest Wendy Murphy, who is on the advisory board of the Alexa Foundation.

Here is a portion of the bio (with my comments inserted in black):

For more than eight consecutive years, The O'Reilly Factor on The FOX News Channel has been the highest rated cable news show (Most of these 8 years only in the age 60 and above demographic. Besides, what does ratings have to do with rape?). No other program even comes close (Countdown with Keith Olbermann has come close and even surpassed viewers on several occasions and so has MSNBC as a whole). It is presided over by Bill O'Reilly, the man who smiles when he calls himself, "Your humble correspondent" (Yeah, this qualifies him to speak to rape survivors!). O' Reilly may be the most controversial, and the most frequently discussed TV analyst today (yes, for being racist, sexually harrassing a fellow staffer, and saying rape victims deserve being raped and killed). “The Factor,” as the show is commonly known, remains an unequaled blend of news analysis and hard hitting investigative reporting dropped into what Bill reminds us nightly is "The No Spin Zone” (Yes, it is self-proclaimed, because everyone else can see the constant, blatant spin).

In addition to his cable show, Bill finds time to author a weekly column appearing in more than 300 papers, and a series of best selling books (one called “Those Who Trespass”, a 1998 book written by O’ Reilly about a journalist who murders several network staff who ruin his career, including one female news correspondent whom he stalks and then throws off a balcony). In light of his accomplishments and his high profile, it is particularly apt that his latest book is a deeply personal and revealing memoir (NOT about rape victims). O'Reilly explains the title came about when he remembered how one of his first teachers looked at him in class and said, "William, you are a bold fresh piece of humanity." And so that's what he named it, because "a bold fresh piece of humanity," is what he truly is (though we are never told by the Alexa Foundation what that even means). Not surprising at all to Bill's millions of viewers, listeners, and readers, or to his often agitated critics (yes, and there’s a GOOD reason for them being agitated. Like, when Billo blames rape victims for their death, something that does not even agitate the Alexa Foundation!).

The memoir comes on the heels of Bill's four previous non-fiction works, all of which vaulted to # 1 on the New York Times list of best sellers (none of them about rape survivors). In addition, “The O'Reilly Factor For Kids” outsold all other children's non-fiction during its run, and the paperback version of “Culture Warriors” hit the top 10 in its first week of release (neither book about rape survivors).

So, in essence, that’s what O’ Reilly’s speaking engagement is, a sales pitch to sell books. It has absolutely nothing to do with how to help, guide or inspire rape survivors. How would Billo accomplish this anyhow?

In addition to the Concerned Citizens Against Sexual Violence’s online petition, there is also a facebook page devoted to the protest of the O’ Reilly event. On the cover page, this testimonial can be found:

“As a rape survivor, I am absolutely APPALLED at the It Happened to Alexa Foundation's choice to have Bill O'Reilly speak at their fundraiser on March 19th. What on Earth could they possibly be thinking?

It Happened to Alexa, a New York based foundation whose website states it's purpose “…is to help support rape survivors through the trauma of the criminal trial, in the hopes that more survivors will go through with the prosecution in order to put these perpetrators behind bars.
Established in 2003, the foundation assists rape victims’ families with travel expenses during the litigation process and is the only organization of its kind in the United States” is having a fundraiser...featuring Bill O'Reilly.

The same Bill O'Reilly who said kidnapped and sexually abused Shawn Hornbeck's kidnapper "made things easy for him. No school, play all day long."

The same Bill O'Reilly who after calling her moronic, said of rape and murder victim Jennifer Moore "...now Moore, Jennifer Moore, 18, on her way to college. She was 5-foot-2, 105 pounds, wearing a miniskirt and a halter top with a bare midriff. Now, again, there you go. So every predator in the world is gonna pick that up at two in the morning."

The same Bill O'Reilly who said of women who worked for him who would spill the beans about his history of sexual harrassment "if any woman ever breathed a word I'll make her pay so dearly she'll wish she'd never been born. I'll rake her through the mud, bring up things in her life, and make her so miserable that she'll be destroyed. And besides, she wouldn't be able to afford the lawyers that I can or endure it financially as long as I can. And nobody would believe her, it'd be her word against mine and who are they going to believe? Me or some unstable woman making outrageous accusations."

The same man! The one and the very same! What business does he have speaking in front of an organization that allegedly advocates for sexual abuse survivors? NONE.

Maybe, just MAYBE there's a better choice, eh?

I am insulted and livid. WE are insulted and livid. There's enough victim blaming in this society without having someone like Bill O'Reilly given free license to spew his b.s. in front of a group that should be sensitive to the feelings of the abused.

This is not helping!

It's like having a coyote speak at a chicken coop preservation event. The lack of logic here is astounding!

I will encourage other victims to seek help through an organization that understands and sympathizes with what they went through and are going through, not just one who goes for the unethical money grab by getting a "big name" speaker, regardless of his stance on their pet issue. It's apparent that they're in it for the money he could bring in, not to help women who need it and they ought to be ashamed!”

I suggest, since the Alexa Foundation will not budge to remove Billo from this speaking event, that protestors come from near and far and stand outside the Ritz Carlton in Manalapan, Florida to publicly humiliate Bill O’ Reilly and the Alexa Foundation. Bring giant poster boards with Billo’s shameful quotes on them (in full context).

Bring boom boxes and blare the audio from Billo’s radio program and TV show, and let everyone hear why the Alexa Foundation’s invitation to have Billo speak is nothing short of despicable.

Bring camcorders, videotape the protest and send the tapes to every news outlet that will promise to play it. Upload it to YouTube, Google and other video sites for the world to see.

If the Alexa Foundation wants to ignore peaceful emails and petitions, let’s see if they ignore broad daylight protests. Make the Alexa Foundation feel ashamed and humiliated for inviting O’ Reilly to begin with.

Since O’ Reilly is not capable of being ashamed (you have to be human first), expose this fraud for his complete lack of integrity for even accepting the invitation.

I'm someone who has signed the petition and worked tirelessly to promote it since the day it went live, on behalf of friends and family members who have been raped and sexually abused over the years. Thank you so much for highlighting this.

I am absolutely HORRIFIED that this is happening. You are exactly right. If this doesn't convince them, I doubt anything will!

Good luck with the protest!!!!!!! I'm crossing my fingers.
